Who runs HARVESTe?
HARVESTe.io is operated by David Stanley as an individual. For data protection purposes, David Stanley is responsible for personal information processed through HARVESTe.
Privacy questions, requests or concerns can be sent to hello@harveste.io.
Information HARVESTe may collect
The information involved depends on how you use HARVESTe. It may include:
- account information, such as your email address, when you create an account or sign in;
- your name, email address and the information you provide when claiming a listing;
- information submitted about a local producer or listing, including its name, address or location, map coordinates, what3words location, listing type and broad product categories;
- information added by listing owners, such as products, prices, opening information, descriptions and photographs;
- visitor recommendations and stock reports; and
- technical information needed to operate, secure and deliver the website.
Your location
HARVESTe can ask your browser for your current location so that it can show your position on the map and help you find nearby listings.
Your browser or device controls whether you allow this. Based on HARVESTe's current implementation, your precise browser location is used to display your position on the map and is not saved by HARVESTe to its database.
This is different from the location of a producer or honesty box. Listing locations are deliberately stored so that they can appear on the public map.
Browser storage
HARVESTe uses limited browser storage to make community features work and reduce repeated or abusive submissions.
For example, HARVESTe creates a random visitor identifier in your browser. It is used to recognise that browser for features such as recommendations. HARVESTe also stores timestamps used to enforce short cooldown periods on visitor stock reports.
HARVESTe does not currently use this browser storage for behavioural advertising or cross-site advertising tracking.
Authentication services may also use browser storage necessary to keep signed-in users authenticated and to secure their session.
Accounts and passwords
HARVESTe uses Supabase to provide account authentication and database services. When you create an account or sign in, authentication information is processed through Supabase.
HARVESTe does not store your password directly in its own listing database or display it to the site operator.
Claims
If you claim a listing, HARVESTe asks for your name, email address and an explanation of why the listing belongs to you or why you are authorised to manage it.
This information is used to review the claim, prevent unauthorised control of listings and administer owner access.
Public listings and photographs
HARVESTe is a public map. Information submitted for a listing may therefore be displayed publicly, including its location, description, products, opening information and photographs.
Listing owners should only upload photographs and information they have the right to publish. Please avoid including unnecessary personal information in photographs, descriptions or other public content.
If a listing or photograph contains personal information that you believe should not be published, contact hello@harveste.io.
Why information is used
HARVESTe uses information where necessary to operate the service, provide requested features, administer accounts and ownership claims, display and maintain listings, protect the service from misuse, respond to enquiries and meet legal obligations.
Where personal information is processed, the legal basis will depend on the circumstances. This may include performing a service requested by you, legitimate interests in operating and securing HARVESTe, consent where required, or compliance with a legal obligation.
Service providers
HARVESTe uses third-party services to operate the website. These currently include Supabase for authentication, database and file storage services, and Cloudflare for website delivery, security, DNS and email routing.
HARVESTe also uses OpenStreetMap map tiles and the Leaflet mapping library to provide its map.
These providers may process technical information as part of delivering their services. Their own privacy terms may also apply to information they process independently.
How long information is kept
Information is kept only for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, to operate HARVESTe, resolve disputes, maintain security or meet legal obligations.
Public listing information may remain available while a listing is relevant to the HARVESTe map. Account and claim information may be retained while needed to administer ownership and protect the integrity of listings.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights over your personal information, including rights to ask for access, correction, deletion or restriction, and to object to certain uses of your information.
To make a request, email hello@harveste.io. HARVESTe may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
You also have the right to raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner's Office if you are unhappy with how your personal information has been handled.
Security
Reasonable technical and organisational measures are used to protect HARVESTe and the information it processes. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, but access controls and other safeguards are used to reduce the risk of unauthorised access or misuse.
Changes to this notice
This notice may be updated as HARVESTe develops or its use of information changes. The date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
